Born in Acushnet, a daughter of the late Frederick E. and Barbara (Metcalf) Duckworth, Nancy had resided in Torrington for 48 years before returning to her hometown of New Bedford in 2017.
Nancy was an active member in her community. She enjoyed making things with her hands and was a skilled crafter. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly; they were her pride and joy.
Nancy grew up in New Bedford, where in her youth she was a member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, a Girl Scout, and sang in the choir of the former North Congregational Church. Nancy was a graduate of the New Bedford Vocational High School where she had studied household arts. As a young adult she enjoyed working with children. She taught at a vacation bible school, and was both a Girl Scout leader and a Girl Scout camp counselor.
Nancy later settled in Torrington where she raised her children and made many lifelong friends. She was employed at the Torrington Company as a machine setter, and then as a sales associate at Caldor, where she worked for 19 years prior to her retirement from the Seitz Corporation. She was a member of the Center Congregational Church, and it was there she learned the art of stained glass. As a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, and Christian summer camp counselor, Nancy was a positive role model for many children in her community. Later in life, she became an accomplished quilter, a hobby she shared with friends from the Sullivan Senior Center. She also enjoyed scrapbooking and drawing. Nancy was exceptional baker, proudly handing those skills and family recipes down to her beloved grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her children, Allison E. Gavaletz and her husband Scott of CT and Aaron A. Lancor and his wife Corrina of MA; her brother Lynn H. Duckworth of MA and his wife Ruth; and her five grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her sister Lois E. Duckworth. Nancy was the former wife of the late Arthur E. Lancor of CT.
