A daughter of the late Harold and Edna (Winstanley) Taylor. Margaret graduated from New Bedford High in 1950. For many years, she was employed at Good Year Tire & Rubber Company in the south end of New Bedford. Later, she worked at Our Lady’s Haven where she eventually earned a certificate to become the in-house nutrition’s assistant and lead the day-to-day efforts of the kitchen. She retired in 1995.
Put lightly, Margaret was a spirited Red Sox fan. (In true Boston fashion, her affinity for the Yankees was non-existent, which she noted in her yearbook.) Her love of sports didn’t stop at baseball, though. She was also a Bruins and Patriots fan. Drew Bledsoe’s exit from the Patriots over to Buffalo was the only time she wavered. Tom Brady eventually grew on her and after a full year of flying the Buffalo flag, she returned to her roots supporting New England once again.
Margaret was also a talented artist. Her mediums included scrimshaw and oil paintings, which she used to bring the beauty of New England and its history to life. Her oil paintings were often images of local landmarks, while her scrimshaw included images of nature and whaling ships. She was also an incredible knitter. She made gorgeous sweaters, hats, blankets, baby booties, for every occasion and always had a basket on her side with yarn, knitting needles, and a pattern ready to go.
Margaret loved all of her pets. She rescued cats from local animal shelters and in the most recent years, her favorite companion was her beloved Tabby cat Molly.
She is survived by her loving children, her three daughters Lisa DeMoranville and her husband Richard of Fairhaven, Desiree Vincent and her husband David of Fairhaven, Deborah Felix and her husband Gary of Fairhaven; a son Michael Gill and his wife Jane of Bristol; 8 grandchildren Michael Vincent, Devan Dupre, Jeremy and Adam DeMoranville, Erin and Sean Gill, Christopher and Brian Felix; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Jane Johnson.
