Christopher John McCartin, photographer and videographer, of Clifton, VA, passed away on April 11, 2025, at the age of 74. He was the biological son of the late Angela Levings and the adoptive son of the late George and Marion McCartin of Springfield, VA. He was also preceded in death by his adoptive sister, Margaret Watkins.
Chris is survived by his partner of 22 years, Vicki McMullen of Clifton, VA; half-sisters Susan Hayes of Ireland and Trisha Levings of England; and numerous cousins with whom he grew up and remained in close contact throughout his life.
A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Chris began his career at WCVE, the local PBS station, where his passion for video and photography took root. He later became self-employed, photographing events such as weddings, corporate functions, and many funeral services at Arlington National Cemetery. He also worked on various assignments with the U.S. Air Force and covered news events for NBC Channel 4.
In the final years of his life, Chris served as a substitute teacher for Fairfax County Public Schools and taught a semester of photography and videography at Fairfax High School — a role he found deeply fulfilling.
He especially loved spending time with his granddaughters, Lux and Nyx, the daughters of Vicki’s daughter Amanda and son-in-law Zach. They lovingly called him “Pappy.”
A Memorial Luncheon will be held on what would have been his 75th birthday — Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 12:30 PM at Piero’s Corner, 13340 Franklin Farm Rd, Herndon, VA 20171. https://www.pieroscorner.com/ All are welcome. Please RSVP to Vicki McMullen by Friday, May 9th at (760) 525-2256.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the USO or the Purple Heart Foundation.
Chris will be truly missed.
