Chicopee, Massachusetts. Family and friends called him by his middle name, "Karl."
Growing up in a military family, Karl lived in Springfield, Massachusetts; Goose Bay,
Labrador, Canada; La Puente, California; Plattsburgh, New York; Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Sacramento, California.
Karl graduated from Thomas B. Doherty High School in Colorado Springs in 1984.
Karl attended American River College and Sierra College. Karl graduated from the
National Broadcasting School in Sacramento in 1989 in Television/Video Production.
Karl lived to express himself and create art, whether it was through his music, poems,
photography, or videography. An accomplished musician, Karl began his musical
journey at an early age by spending hours playing electric guitar, bass guitar, and
electric organ and keyboards. Karl played the Double Bass in orchestras throughout
junior and senior high school. He continued to compose, arrange, and produce music
as a solo artist, member of bands, and for other artists throughout his life. Not limited
by one genre, Karl's musical range included rock, soul, dance, heavy metal, electronic,
and ambient music. Most recently, Karl was the bass guitarist for the Sacramento
progressive rock band "King Never."
Karl was blessed with being a gentle and kind soul by all who knew him. Karl's friends
often leaned upon him for support during difficult times. He was often called upon by
family and friends to diagnose and fix an array of computer and electronic equipment,
all done by him willingly. Karl also designed numerous web sites as part of his father's
business and independently for clients.
Karl is survived by his father Vernon Karl Lane; his mother Brenda Thomas Lane; and
his brother Derrick Anthony Lane. Karl is further survived by his step-mother Nadine
Lane; uncles Walter Thomas, John Eric Thomas, and Bernon Lee Lane; aunts Helen
Sisco and Jacqueline Cruise; in-laws Charles and Patricia Burns, Christopher Burns,
and Calli Lane; and a host of other relatives who loved him dearly.
