JW Richardson

Obituary

JW Richardson passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Gramercy Court Skill Nursing Home. He was 87.

JW was born in Altheimer Arkansas, February 26, 1925. In 1940 at the young age of 15 he traveled to Glendale California to work for a share cropper’s son. Disappointed with his treatment he quickly joined the US Army in 1942. While in the army he met and married Emma J. Jackson. Together they started a family and traveled the world. He served in the Army for several years and transfer to the US Air Force. During his 22 years of honorable service with the Air Force he was stationed at Nelles and Beal AFB. His overseas tours include Africa and France.

JW had a zest for cooking and serving BBQ dinners. After his military career he continued his zest for cooking by working for University of California (UCD) hospital cafertia. He worked in UCD food management division for 18 years. JW was too young for retirement so he continued working for Marriotts Resorts and Hotels.

After full retirement JW spent his time taking care of his family. He loved his family and was very charitable to those less fortunate. His family and friends loved his BBQ dinners, his quick wit/humor and his positive demeanor. After retirement the VFW Post became his second home. After caring for his family JW spent his days at the VFW or on those one day fishing trips. He would catch the fish, clean and fry the fish and serve the fish with fresh vegetables from his beautiful garden.

JW and sister plus several cousins were raised by his great grandmother Corine Hayes, who left us in 1965. To celebrate her life the family has had 47 consecutive family reunions. JW hosted numerous Haynes-Washington Family reunions in Sacramento. JW believed that the best thing you can give your children, next to good values, are good memories.

He leaves to mourn, his wife of 67 years Emma J. Richardson, his sons, John Richardson, Michael Richardson and his daughters, Corine Johnson, Cher Daniels-Haden, Helen Clayton and Mary A. Richardson. He leaves his loving sister and only sibling Florizell Lee. He was preceded in death by his son Edward Richardson. He also leaves to cherish his memories many four grand and five great grandchildren, cousins, and dear friends.
