Dorothy was born in Seattle, WA and attended West Seattle High School and the University of Washington. Dorothy excelled in ballet and dance classes as a child and was a baton twirler in high school. She worked night while attending high school and college as stage dancer, entertaining the troops during WWII.
In 1949 she married Kenneth L. Borough and raised three daughters living in Portland, OR, Southern California and Crescent City, CA. In those early years Dorothy worked part time and was also an active volunteer for Brownie and Girl Scout Troops and the Winema Girl Scout Council. As her daughter’s grew Dorothy’s volunteer work expanded to supporting foreign exchange students through AFS and she also joined the Women’s Club which she continued to be a member for many years. Dorothy and Ken were able to travel together to Germany to visit their former exchange student and also traveled to the South Pacific and New Zealand.
In 1990 when her daughters were grown, Dorothy returned to full time employment as an Administrator for the California State EDD and then as a Personnel Administrator for Redwood National Park where she retired. Dorothy then relocated to Roseville, CA to be closer to her family. Dorothy was a member of the Roseville Women’s Club since 2005. She served as President from 2008 to 2010. She was a member of General Federation of Women’s Clubs since 1978 and also served as President of the Crescent City Women’s Club prior to moving to Roseville.
Dorothy is survived by her three daughters and their spouses: Laura and Steven Maier of Chapel Hill, NC, Sylvia and Don Leutz of Port Orange, FL and Kimberly and Peter Lee of Roseville, CA. Dorothy is also survived by four grandchildren – Christopher Maier of Manila, Philippines; Jonathan Maier of Westminster, SC; Meredith & Benjamin Bennett of Colorado Springs, CO and Kevin and Ruby Yeh Lee of Oakland, CA. She also has three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
