Betty Miller went home to be with the Lord on February 17, 2023 after a long battle with cancer and multiple other health issues. She is survived by her loving husband, Albert Miller, and daughter, Terri Day. Betty is also survived by her sister-in-law, Evelyn, and many nieces, and nephews.
Betty Lou Wiske was born in Nashville, Kansas on April 17, 1938. She lived her early years on a farm until her father passed away when she was nine years old. Her mother remarried and they moved to Garber, Oklahoma a couple of years later. After high school Betty attended business school. Betty found employment with a Law Firm. Betty married Albert in Hawaii in 1961 while he was stationed at Hickam AFB. They spent a short time living in Hawaii. Al was then transferred to Dover, Delaware where they set up their next home. In 1964 the couple welcomed a baby girl, named Terri. Al got orders to go Viet Nam shortly after. It was a trying time for Betty to raise her daughter by herself while Al was gone. However, she “soldiered” on, making the best of her situation. She even put little Terri into the car and drove across town to a friend’s house during a hurricane, just to get them out of harm’s way.
Then in 1967 Al got new orders for Sacramento. The family moved to the North Highlands area and later bought a home. Betty started her church training in the German Lutheran Church that her family started in Nashville, Kansas. She continued that tradition by attending Zion Lutheran church. Betty made many new friends and started volunteering in her church. Betty loved the Lord.
Betty worked for the Rio Linda School District for over 20 years as an instructional assistant. She loved working with children and making a difference in the lives of children. Betty had a very caring spirit. After retiring from Rio Linda, she and Al moved to Roseville. Betty quickly made new friends and found a church closer to home. Betty and Al attended Pleasant Grove Community Church for many years. Again, Betty used her talents to serve God and attend Bible Studies. Betty got involved in knitting baby blankets, prayer shawls, and crocheting items for the needy. Betty was always interested in people. She had a knack for remembering details of their lives, even the birthdays of their children. Betty was the “Mrs. Cravats” of the neighborhood.
Betty cared about people, and she was always willing to bring a meal or a dish of food to someone to need. One of her passions was playing Mahjongg. Betty really enjoyed playing and became quite serious about the game, she even had an official Mahjongg playing card. According to her family, the world stopped so that Betty could play her monthly Mahjongg get together.
Betty and Al celebrated their 60th Anniversary with a Hawaiian theme party. Betty had many health issues throughout her life. Betty persevered through all her cancer treatments and even last year with her heart attack. Betty stayed faithful until the end when the Lord called her home peacefully on February 17, 2023.
Some of Betty’s favorite Bible verses…

2 Timothy 4:7 – “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”.
