Ann (Davies) Schroeder was born in Carmel, California on May 12, 1942. Her parents, Robert L. Davies (Bob) and Dorothy Davies (Dotty), provided her with a magical, carefree childhood. She often recounted stories of traipsing through Carmel Valley with her sister and cousins, attending the Carmel Mission School and watching whales from the house her dad built on 17-Mile Drive. In addition to the beautiful Central Coast, she cherished months visiting her loving grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins in Wilber and Lincoln, Nebraska and Alton, Illinois.
After WWII, she journeyed aboard the Queen Mary, and had many adventures living in Morocco and traveling throughout Europe. Her family eventually settled in Sacramento, where she attended El Camino High School. She was a social butterfly involved in a myriad of clubs and activities, but spoke most fondly of her joyful memories as a song leader and vocal entertainer. She treasured her high school friendships, many of which continued at San Jose State University.
Ann met her husband, Herb Schroeder, at the Twin Lakes Resort in the summer of 1963. She worked at the front desk and would play piano in the boat room for Herb, where they connected over their love of big band and jazz music. Their first date was to see Dean Martin, which started their relationship and led to a marriage of 56 years.
Ann excelled at everything creative. She was passionate and accomplished at oil painting, sewing, designing, inventing, cooking and cake decorating, but made her mark in music. She had a beautiful contralto voice and sang professionally at the Cleopatra nightclub, while making appearances in Reno, Tahoe, and with the Music Circus. She was also an amazing pianist who brought feeling to her pieces, especially her favorite - Clair de Lune.
When she became a young mother to Lisa and Katherine, she relished everything about the role, and loved planning fun-filled birthday parties, serving as a Blue Bird leader, and volunteering with all of her daughters’ activities. She also started her own music studio, where she taught voice, piano, and music appreciation.
Her Catholic faith was front and center, carrying her through life’s struggles. She was a parishioner at Holy Family Catholic Church, where she taught CCD and was involved in the music ministry. Her daily devotions included reading the Bible, attending Mass, and praying for family, friends, and strangers in need.
Ann passed away peacefully on February 15th, 2022. She is survived by her husband Herb Schroeder, her daughters Lisa Bacich and Katherine Comer, her sons-in-law Marco Bacich and Scott Comer, her four grandchildren Kate, Rebecca, Violet and Colin, her sister Vicki Parsons, her sisters-in-law Dianne Carver and Marla Schroeder, nieces and nephews Jenny, Brad, Dee, Randy, Neil, Leslie, Sam, Tarah, many grandnephews and nieces, and beloved cousins and friends.
Please join us March 12th at 10am to celebrate her life at Mount Vernon Memorial Park.
