It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rosalie Miles Francisco on October 5, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on April 24, 1943, in Orofino, Idaho, Rosalie was a beacon of love, kindness, and dedication throughout her life.
A proud graduate of Orofino High School, Rosalie was valedictorian of her class in 1961. She continued her education at the College of Idaho, earning her degree in 1965, followed by a Master’s in Teaching from City University. Her passion for education led her to teach elementary school in Oregon for two years before relocating to Seattle, where she made a profound impact in the classroom as a special education teacher and a devoted instructor primarily in 2nd grade. Rosalie retired from Alki Elementary, leaving behind a legacy of nurturing young minds.
A committed member of the American WWII Orphan Network (AWON), Rosalie contributed her time as a volunteer at Woodland Park Zoo, taught diabetes cooking and health classes, and participated in the teacher program for Mars Pathfinder—the first robotic rover to land on Mars. She embraced her creativity through music, playing the piano, sewing, quilting, and scrapbooking, and was known as the family historian, preserving cherished memories for future generations.
Rosalie was a lifelong member of the Magnolia United Methodist Church, where she engaged in various volunteer roles, embodying her spirit of service and compassion.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, David Francisco; her mother, Edith Day, in 2019; her father, Howard Miles, who lost his life in WWII; her sister, Nancy Strom; and her step father, Everett Day.
Rosalie is survived by her loving sons, Matthew Francisco and his spouse Liz Grove, and Christopher Francisco and his spouse Vonita, as well as her adored grandchildren, Robert, Shoshana, and Emily. She also leaves behind her cherished sisters, Debbie Bair and Cristie Cochrell.
Rosalie will be remembered as a loving, caring, devoted grandmother and a vibrant presence in the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire her family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at Rosalie’s home in Edmonds on Sunday, November 10th.
