William “Bill” Schmidt, 73 of Evansville, IN. passed away on December 27, 2022. William, son of Albert F Schmidt and Elizabeth Grider Schmidt, was born in Vincennes, IN on January 19, 1949.
Bill served as an electronics technician in the Navy and spent time on the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. After leaving the Navy, he attended Ivy Tech and then worked in Heating and Air Conditioning for 35 years before retiring from J E Shekell in 2010.
Bill treasured his family and friends and spent many happy hours attending his children’s sporting events, playing and teasing with his grandchildren, and maintaining his house, garden, yard and vehicles. Bill took great pleasure in the companionship of his pets and enjoyed music, particularly listening to local bands and attending music festivals.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Geraldine Roby Schmidt; two children, Adam Schmidt (Cassandra) and Emily Schmidt; four grandchildren, Hannah, Alexander, and Henry Schmidt and Lukas Arnold. He is also survived by his brother, Eric Schmidt and brothers-in-law, Elmer “Penny”, Joe and Ed Roby; and cousins and life-long friends. He was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law John Roby.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Bethel Manor and Omni Hospice. Their ongoing commitment to both physical and mental care and their loving support have made this journey smoother for both Bill and his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
