William Douglas Murray (Billy) 71 of Evansville, IN, passed away on Friday January 20, 2023, at Heritage Hospice Center surrounded by family. He was born on March 3, 1951, to the late Charles and Betty Murray in Evansville, Indiana.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol; son, Robert or better known as Tinker Murray; daughter, Shannon Murray (Ricky Coleman); his favorite of all time, his grandson Braxxton Murray-McFarland; Brother, Gary (Lori) Murray; Brother, Gene (Debbie) Murray; Sister, Janice Davidson; Sister, Veda (Marc) Duckworth, Sister Stacey Murray Spalding. Bonus grandsons MJ and Myles Hasell. His best friends Harry (Diane) Woods, Jody Oberhausen and Edwin or better known as Tubby (Sharon) Bryant. With addition to a host of nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
Billy is proceeded in death by his son Steven Joel Murray; parents, Charles and Elizabeth (Betty) Murray; and brother, Jerry Murray. Billy was a combat Engineer in the United States Army and was a dedicated United States Veteran. He was a mechanic and welder for Allied Waste (BFI) and Bodine Equipment.
Billy was truly loved by all and he never met a stranger. He was always the go to man when anybody needed their vehicle fixed. He loved to go hunting, fishing and go camping with his family at “The Camp” located in Griffin, Indiana. He loved to go to car shows and Cruz Ins with his wife and grandson in the, “OLD CAR” a 1953 Ford Customline. He chose to be a great Dad to his children, Tinker and Shannon. He set the bar when it came to being a grandparent. He was his grandson’s biggest fan. Just as with his children when they were younger, Billy never missed an opportunity to spend time with his grandson, Braxxton. He was beyond proud when his grandson followed his footsteps and enlisted in the US Army. Billy never met a fur baby that didn't adore him (ok maybe there is one *Princess). Billy and his brother Gary gave all of their niece's and nephew's nick names and tormented them on a regular basis, from “soap to wash away freckles”, the "garbage finger" to the “bread bumps”. Billy was a constant comedian and enjoyed seeing people laugh.
