Born in Meadows, West Virginia on June 27, 1942, Wanda was raised to be a hard worker by her loving mother who died in 1984 but continued to guide her throughout her life. Wanda was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid volunteer for the VA clinic and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 1114. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren very much. Wanda touched many lives, and will be greatly missed.
Wanda is survived by her sister, Willa Mahon of Delbarton, WV: children, Dimple Barnes (David) of McLeansboro, IL; Anthony Ellis of Statesville, NC; Shirley Chase (Brad) of Clarksville, TN; Joan Devine of Newburgh, IN; Eddie Ellis of Evansville, IN; and Katrina Bruce of Evansville, IN; 13 grandchildren; Erica and Nathan Robinson, April and Anthony Ellis, Codi Ellis, Kristi, Kyle, and Katie Devine, Karlee Ellis, Kenzie and Madison Bruce; many great grandchildren; step-daughter, Terri Freiberger (John); step-sons, Ronald Jr. and Chris Burton, and several step-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving longtime companion and friend Tom Fox.
Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, Dimple Powers and Anthony Browning; her late husband, Ronald J. Burton Sr. (2006); former husband and father to all of her children, Cody Ellis; brothers, Edmond and Raymond Browning, and sister, Gloria Jeani Hensley.
The family would like to express their thanks to extended family member Paula Beck for all her love and support in their time of grief. Special thanks to the entire Southern Care Hospice staff particularly Chasidy and Helen for their excellent care and compassion.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Rd, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit from 4p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
