Shirley Ann Schaefer, 87, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2024 at her home. She was born on April 25, 1936 in Greenville, Missouri to the late Harry A. and Clara E. (Parsons) Seabaugh.
She moved with her family in 1941 to Gibson County, Indiana. Shirley retired from Little Sisters of the Poor, Home for the Elderly after 25 years of service. She was a hard worker. Her favorite hobby was gardening, she had quite the green thumb. Shirley loved playing the piano, singing, and dancing. She also loved camping any opportunity she would get. Shirley enjoyed her last year making new friends at The Retreat at Leisure Living.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Patrick Schaefer; sisters, Geneva Lanman and E. Christine Miller; and brother, J. Howard Seabaugh.
Shirley is survived by her sister, Betty McDermott; her children, Brenda Jost (Jim), Frank Schaefer (Laura), John Schaefer (Jennifer), Mark Schaefer (Darlene), Daniel Schaefer, Rosanna Evans (David), Pete Schaefer (Brandie), Janie Solomon, Bobbi Debes (Tom), Adam Schaefer (Stephanie); 33 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024 at St. Benedict Cathedral with Father Ted Tempel officiating. Entombment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Princeton, Indiana. Friends may visit with family from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Alexander Funeral Home East, 2115 Lincoln Avenue where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also visit from 9:30 a.m. until Mass time on Friday at St Benedict Cathedral 1328 Lincoln Ave.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Maple Hill Cemetery at rememberusmaplehill.com and St. Benedict Cathedral Evansville.
