Mildred B. Talbert, 91, of Newburgh, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011, at Angel River Health & Rehabilitation. She was born April 10, 1919, in Leslie, Arkansas, the daughter of Vannie and Edward H. Markus.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter C. Talbert; and daughter, Beverly Englert Meisler.
Millie is survived by her sister, Beulah Hunt; nieces, Genell Floyd, Helena Cullum and Carol Miller (goddaughter); and grandchildren, Don Meisler (Pam) and Kathy Meisler Prill. Millie is also survived by many other loving family members including Walter’s children, Mary (Talbert) Arndt (Walt) and James W. Talbert (Alicia); grandchildren, Lisa Lash, Debbie Schall, Marco Talbert, Maria Worthington, Katie Rideaux, Karen Summers and Jenny Arndt; as well as many great-grandchildren and extended family.
Millie worked for over thirty years at Weinbach Department Store, mainly in ladies clothing and jewelry. After retirement, she and Walter volunteered actively at the Evansville Christian Life Center. Millie prepared and served many meals at the Life Center, recruited Walter to help with the Life Center mailings and she even enlisted her grandchildren and their friends to help at the Life Center. She was a member of the Lady Owls and Eagles and VFW Auxiliary. Millie loved to cook, take trips with Walter, and play Bunco. She was known for her vegetable gardens, plants, and her spunk. She will be missed by her family, friends and her caregivers at Angel River from whom she received a lot of special treatment.
Services will be 9:00 AM Saturday, March 26, 2011, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 1328 Lincoln Avenue, officiated by Fr. Gregory Chamberlin, with entombment in Oak Hill Mausoleum. Friends may visit Friday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, with a memorial service at 7:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Angel River and Vista Care Hospice for their care of Millie.
