James (Jim) E Montgomery, 96, passed away on October 13, 2022 at the Heritage Center. Jim was on born May 16, 1926 in Evansville to the late Lamar and Clementina Montgomery.
He Started working at Cooke Chevrolet in 1948 and took leave to serve in the Korean War for 2 years before returning to Cooke’s. He married his wife, Millie (Hahn) in 1949 and they lived in Virginia while he was in the Army. They moved back to Evansville at that time. Jim was a life member of VFW post 1114, the American Legion Funkhouser post 8, Isaac Walton League, Eagles and Armstrong Retiree’s Club where he played clabber every month.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Lucian and Charles and sisters Rita and Marylee, brothers-in-law Orval Hahn and Donnie Hudson, sister-in- law Betty Hahn and nephew Randy Hahn.
He is survived by his wife Mildred (Millie) of 73 years, sister-in-law Verna Hudson, caregivers/nieces Janie Cummings (Bob), Judy Fluty (Robin), Janet Leibring (Rod) and Donna Hahn as well as many other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
We’d like to thank the Heritage Center and Heritage Hospice for their special care.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Alexander West Chapel officiated by Pastor Jeff Long. Entombment will follow in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends and family may visit on Monday October 17, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Tuesday 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
