Imogene Morrison, 101, of Evansville, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013. She was born July 18, 1912, in Ansley, NE. She was Valedictorian of Ansley High School. She attended Cotner College in Nebraska, received her B.A. from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence Law Degree from the University of Nebraska Law School. As one of only a few female law graduates, Imogene was admitted to the Nebraska Bar in 1935. After working in government contract law, she married Russell C. Morrison in 1937. During World War II, she volunteered for the American Red Cross. The couple moved from Albion, IL to Evansville in 1958.
She was always active in the community. Imogene was founder and past President of the Albion PTA, past President of the Evansville branch of AAUW, and active in the PTA at Dexter, Bosse and Harrison. As an elected delegate to the Little White House Conference on Education, she traveled to Washington, DC and was addressed by President Eisenhower. She was a former board member of the YWCA and received her 75-year pin as an Alpha Chi Omega. Imogene spent nine years teaching in Evansville and Mt. Vernon.
Other memberships included Delta Kappa Gamma, Officers Wives Club, Pi Kappa Delta Forensic Society, Alpha Psi Omega Drama Society and various local organizations. She was always active in the activities of her children, including Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader. She had been a member of East Side Christian Church since 1958 and was involved in Christian Women’s Fellowship and Young at Hearts, where she provided and received the support of God’s love.
Imogene was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, in 1979; and her grandson, Steve, in 1990.
She will be deeply missed by her son, Russell (Joann) of Hampton, VA; daughter, Sharon Morrison Morrow (Chuck) of Las Vegas, NV; granddaughters, Kathy Morrison, Terry Morrow, Kim Morrow-Lopez and Amy Morrow Bennett; great-grandchildren, Micalah Morrison, Adam Lopez, Henry Lopez, Christopher Bennett and Brandon Bennett; and sister, Charlene Krause (Wayne) of Longview, WA.
Imogene loved her family and friends and had a way of inspiring those around her with her positive outlook. She always said she had “the best friends and neighbors in the world.” As a loyal fan of Nebraska football, Indiana University basketball and the Indiana Colts, we knew not to telephone her during a game.
“The world may never know that you cared more, gave more, shared more, loved more, than was expected. But we know.”
The family would like to thank all of Imogene’s wonderful caregivers.
Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, August 3, 2013, at Alexander East Chapel, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
