Herman Junior Stock “Sonny”, 90, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020, at Golden Living Woodbridge Nursing Home. He was born on April 12, 1930, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Herman Edward and Cornelia (VanOston) Stock.
Herman moved to the Westside of Evansville in 1932 and stayed a Westsider. He was a graduate of Reitz High School in 1950, where he lettered in football. Herman joined the Naval Reserves in February 1952 and Navy Seabees from 1952 to 1958. Herman served an electrical apprenticeship and became a Journeyman Inside Wireman Electrician and carried a city license for 47 years. He retired from Industrial Contractors in 1992. He entered the Lessing Lodge in 1954, Scottish Rite in 1957, Hadi Shrine in May of 1958, and Funster’s in June of 1958, and became President in 1968. He received “Funster of the Year” award and was Funster President in 1986, 1998, 2002, 2005, and 2011 and Funster Hall of Fame in 2004. He was the Potentate Chief Aide in 1986 and 1990. Herman was an Honorary Life Member of Hadi Arab Patrol, Motor Corp, Oriental Band, Hospital Staff, and Kentucky Colonels.
He was preceded in death by parents; sister, Joyce Brown; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Herman is survived by wife of 67 years, JoAnn (Duckworth) Stock; children, Debra Velders (Jerry), Herman Lee Stock (Debi), Tamra Johnson, and DeDra Deig (Rick); grandchildren, Joshua W. Velders MSgt USAF SCANG, Crystal England (Major Jacob England DDS, MS, USA), Amanda Goebel (Ben), Shelley Brown (Seth), Nathan Stock (Jordan), Sunny Rowley (Josh), Clara Sandefur (Tommy), Madilyn Johnson, Amy Stewart (Michael), Adam Deig, and Alivia Grogan (Adam); 16 great grandchildren, Adianne Jolie Velders; Cova, Hollis, Rosalee, and Kizzie Mae England; Elijah, and Sawyer Goebel; Madalyn Burress, Chase, and Zachary Brown; Kade and Wrenlee Stock; Raylan, and Vincent Sandefur; Dalton and Ava Stewart; and niece and nephews, David Brown, Daniel Brown, Kim Johann and their families.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2020, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Pastor Paul Seburg, with entombment to follow at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 6:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
