He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Don graduated from Bosse High School in 1960 and achieved a Bachelor of Science from Evansville College. He was a U.S. Army as a M.P. veteran and was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. Don retired from Indiana Workforce Development as an Audit Examiner in 2006.
Don loved family trips, the New York Yankees and coaching his boys in all sports. He coached with Lakeview Optimist Football, Basketball and Baseball. Although not one to brag, he was particularly proud of his Wing-T formation offense and his I-press which he ran with devastating efficiency.
He also loved to golf and went on many outings with his buddies. Growing up an only child, Don met his true brothers while attending Stanley Hall Grade School. He kept close friendships with his “boys” as he liked to call them, until the day of his passing.
Don loved following the local high schools in all sports and rooted for every single Tri-State athlete who made it to the next level, as if they were one of his own.
One of his greatest joys were his grandchildren. He was there for all practices, games, activities and functions and wasn’t happy if he had to miss anything. He was their number one fan. He was a proud grandpa.
Don is survived by his wife and soul mate, Patricia Russell; sons, Todd (Jane) and Joe; and grandchildren, Mallory and Joshua.
He will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
