He worked for McDonnell Aircraft in St. Louis, MO and served in the Korean War in the United States Marine Corps. Byron went on to co-own RuVan Plastics. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church, Evansville Radio Control Model Airplane Club, Evansville Astronomical Society, Evansville Choral Artists, and the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus. Byron enjoyed playing golf and traveling with his wife. He was the former music director at North Park Baptist Church.
Byron was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna (Rust) Vandiver; daughter, Sharon Vance; granddaughter, Kristi Vandiver; and son in law, Rick Hankins.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Marcia (Taylor) Pressley Vandiver; son, Steve Vandiver (Karen); daughter, Barbara Hankins; son-in-law, Dennis Vance; stepson, Tim Pressley (Jennifer); grandchildren, Jennifer Kellems (Shane), Chris Hankins (Taylor Storey), Michael Vandiver (Christina Oschman), and Jessica Payne (Josh); step granddaughter, Stephanie Quiggins; and seven great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday April 27, 2023 at Alexander North Chapel, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends and family may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday April 26, 2023 and from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
