Betty Jean (Knote) Roeder, 93, died Thursday, June 8, in Westfield, IN.
A native of Evansville, IN, Betty graduated from Bosse High School. She worked as the secretary to the management team at Shane Uniform Company (later Evansville Garment Company) until the late 1960s.
A lifelong Lutheran, Betty helped start Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church where she served as the adult and children’s choir director, Sunday School leader, and was church organist for many years. More recently, she was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Evansville.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Fred, who died last October. They met as babies when they were in the cradle roll at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. They celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary last summer.
Survivors include one son Michael (Lee Ann) of Westfield; three grandsons, John (Taylor) of Westfield, Tim (Emily) of Westfield and Kurt (Nicole) of Indianapolis; two great-granddaughters, Hallie and Logan; a sister Barbara Kull of Newburgh; a brother Bill Knote (Shirley) of Newburgh; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home – North Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Evansville, followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church of our Redeemer Memorial Trust Fund.
