Mary Delores Manzi passed away Dec 20, 2012 after a short illness. She was 85. She married Charly Manzi in 1946. They started out dairying in Willows and in 1962 they bought the Fulmon Ranch. Together they raised 5 children and survived the ’64 floods.
She told stories of times they had no money and barely survived. Her children never knew how much their parents sacrificed for them.
Mary tried to get her husband to retire and was getting through to him. “Life isn’t all work.” Then he died in 1985. After that she watched her grandchildren grow up, went on many cruises with Mary Silveria, to Europe, and bus trips to Reno.
She was a loyal Ferndale Wildcats Football fan, with her sister Ione. In 25 years, she missed only about 5 games. Her children were happy she was able to see them win the championship this year.
And of course…the best fried chicken…“case closed.” Her breakfasts on Saturdays for many years were unbelievable. She had a heart of gold.
Many friends are going to miss her not being here, but she will not be forgotten. She leaves behind sons Charley,(Julie), Michael, Robert and Kenny Manzi; daughter Beverly Upward; Grandchildren Gina Manzi, Greg Manzi, Ryan Miller, (Erin) Grant Manzi (Kim), Kalib Manzi (Brittany) Charley Manzi, Melody Vonderhorst (Brent), Heidi Ambrosini (Bob); Great grandchildren Riley, Trevor Ambrosini, Reed Vonderhorst. Logan Miller, Michael Manzi, and one coming in February; sisters Evelyn Paine and Ione Franz; and sister in laws, Josephine Ghilarducci and Silvia Leonardo.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charlye Manzi;, parents Joe and Mary Leonard; brothers Joe and Frank Leonardo; in laws David Ghilarducci and Timer Paine; and son in law Burt Upward.
We will say goodbye on Friday, Dec 28, at the Catholic Church in Ferndale at 10am. There will be a visitation held at the Church at 9:00am before the service. Interment will follow in Eureka at Ocean View Cemetery Mausoleum. A reception will follow at Assumption School in Ferndale, which everyone is welcome to attend.
Her grand-daughters husbands’ and grandsons will be pallbearers.
Donations may be made to Hospice of Humboldt or Ferndale High Athletic Dept.
