Jose is survived by his loving wife, Rosa Zepeda; his children, Martha Zepeda, Angela Liberman, Jesse Zepeda, George Zepeda, Elizabeth Zepeda Norman, and Cindy Leyba; his grandchildren, Andrea Prado, Jacob Becerra, James Becerra, Maya Liberman, Lupita Lozano, Jesse Zepeda, Raquel Michaud, Madeleine Fonseca, Jorge Luis and Emily Zepeda, Ariana and Bryant Smyth, Logan Cary, Isaac, Michael and Noah Leyba; his great-grandchildren, Claire, Aria, Nicolas Jacques, Jenelle Marie, Olivia Marie, Kalea Marie; and his brother Francisco Zepeda.
Jose was preceded in death by his grandson, Jean-Jacques Zepeda
Jose came to the United States in the fifties and later became a proud US citizen in the sixties. He had a long successful career in construction as a cement finisher and his work is visible throughout his hometown of Escondido as well as some well known landmarks such as Escondido City Hall, the stadium formerly known as Qualcomm Stadium and San Diego's Zoo's Safari Park.
Jose was also an avid gardener and loved tending to his plants and fruit trees. He was a fan of the sport of kings and regularly attended horse racing at Agua Caliente when it was in operation and Del Mar. He had a passion for mariachi music and politics and In recent years Jose enjoyed meeting with his friends Ron and Julio for their morning coffee several times a week.
Visitation for Jose will be held Monday, December 12, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McLeod Mortuary, 1919 East Valley Pkwy, Escondido, California 92027. Funeral services will occur Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 2:30 PM at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 2640 Glenridge Road, Escondido, California 92027.
