Marie A. Vogt

Marie was born on March 9, 1950 in Brattleboro, Vt. she lived her formative years on the “Wickey Dairy Farm” in Northfield, Mass. with her father Stanley Wickey and Mother Agnes (Solasz) Wickey both of whom predeceased her.

Marie graduated from Pioneer Valley High School in Northfield, Northampton Community College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst where she earned a bachelor’s degree in human resources.

She worked for the Town of Amherst, Mass. For 15 + years in the Human Resources Dept. and then as the assistant to the Town manager. She founded the business AdvoServe LLC which provided financial, medical and care guidance to seniors. She operated the business successfully for 4 years before assuming the position of Administrative Manager for the Financial Services business she and her husband developed in the Amherst/Northampton and Venice/Sarasota area in Florida.

She and her husband previously resided in Sunderland, Mass. before building a house in Rotonda West, Florida in 2004 where she eventually relocated permanently after caring for her father. They together relocated to Sarasota in 2006 as their business grew and ultimately downsized in 2013 relocating to Boca Royale in Englewood, Fl. to be closer to her step grandchildren whom she began caring for.

Marie was a person of deep Catholic faith and prayed every night for the wellbeing of family and the less fortunate. She was a communicant of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Englewood. She loved animals particularly cats and dogs. She was a longtime member of the Amherst Rotary Club, a member of Elks Lodge 2495 in Sarasota and generously gave of her time to supporting homeless causes. She was an extraordinary sewer and embroiderer which she spent many off hours at enjoying making items for others. She also spent time taking amazing photographs of birds and animals with her telescopic lens.

Marie played golf for many years enjoying golf trips with her husband and various events at Country Clubs where they belonged. She did not swim yet would fish and earned the name “fish whisperer” from other family members because she always caught the most. However, because of her love for animals she always tried to throw everyone’s fish back!

In her early 20’s she accompanied her mother on an extensive trip to Europe through Ireland, United Kingdom, France and Italy. She always said the highlight of the trip was seeing the Pope at the Vatican. She and her husband enjoyed trips to all the Western National Parks, Alberta the Canadian Rockies, Victoria, B.C., Seattle, Chicago, Atlanta, Ashville, N.C., Alaska, Las Vegas, Kiawah Island, Costa Rica, St. Martin, the Adirondack Mtns. and trips with their close friends to San Francisco, Washington DC, New Orleans, San Antonio, New York, Gettysburg, and the Maine Coast.

Nine years ago, her stepson and his wife who reside in Venice (Wellen Park) began to have children. For the last nine years Marie spent Mon. thru Fri. Caring for each child before they attained school age while their parents worked. She stated emphatically that caring for them was absolutely the highlight of her life as she cherished every minute and worshipped the children. She exemplified the phrase “in sickness and health” when caring for the children. As a personal activity she took up playing Pickleball fell in love with the game and particularly with those that played the game at Boca Royale.

Marie was an extremely private person, quiet, loyal, comforting, sensible, affectionate with those close to her and a wonderful, fabulous wife. Her common sense, mellowness and always seeing the positive of a situation will be terribly missed.

She is survived by her husband Bruce C. Vogt of Englewood, stepdaughter Christine Vogt and her partner Jen Goodwin of Guilford, CT, stepson Jeffrey Vogt and wife Rachel of Venice, and three step-grandchildren all of Venice: Isabelle, Juliette, and Jackson.

There will be a public Mass at St Raphael’s Catholic Church located at 770 Kilbourne St in Englewood, Fl. on July 22, 2022 at 10:00 am. A private burial will follow at Gulf Pines Cemetery in Englewood.
