James was born in New York and, as a military brat, grew up in several communities in New York, Virginia, and Newfoundland, Canada. He is predeceased by his father, Captain Joseph W. Jung, USN, and his mother, Ruth, step-father, William McCloy, step-brother William and step-sister, Cecelia McCloy. He is survived by his brother, Joseph Jr. (Shirley), step-siblings Mark McCloy (Elizabeth), Christopher McCloy (Janet), Rita Stephanz, brother-in-law David Dobson, and special friend Sally Seymour. His nephews also survive him, Joseph Jung III (Molly), John Jung and his niece Patricia-Anne (Jason Appel), and Grand-nieces Rowan and Marz Jung.
In his youth, James achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and obtained a Canadian Private Pilot License. He graduated from the University of Georgia and earned a Masters from Long Island University. Following his time in the U.S. Navy, James became a teacher before starting his career as a rehabilitation counselor. He retired after 34 years as a certified rehabilitation counselor for the State of Georgia Division of Rehabilitation Services, where he worked primarily with visually impaired clients. James was also interested in real estate, antique properties, sailing, and fishing. He is a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Englewood, Florida, the American Legion, the Venice Yacht Club, and the Georgia Rehabilitation Association, where he served as president in 1997.
A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 701 North Indiana Avenue, Englewood 34223, on Thursday, October 24, at 10:00 a.m., with a reception to follow. Internment will occur at a later date at
the convenience of the family. Remembrances may be directed to Scouts BSA (Scouting America).
