Kae, as she preferred to be called, was born on March 28, 1944 in Los Angeles, California. Her family moved to the Bay Area when she was a teenager. She often described her teenage years as being like American Graffiti. She loved cars and loved to drive; She earned her first speeding ticket drag racing a highway patrolman on the newly opened 280 freeway, and still holds the family speed record clocking in at 130 mph driving back from Las Vegas. While working as a carhop at Kibby’s in San Mateo, she roller-skated into the heart of Thomas Earl Rials, and they wed on June 15, 1969 in Carmel, CA. Together they had three children. She was a devoted mother and a regular volunteer at their school. She will be remembered as the cool mom on field trips, letting the kids in her car group stay late at the amusement parks etc. After scooting her children off to school, Kae rejoined the work force and became an Executive Assistant and took great pride in her profession joining Professional Secretaries International. Away from work she enjoyed her Arabian horses and dogs, sewing, and entertaining family. She also took up golf in her later years, proudly displaying a Ms. Par license plate on her Thunderbird. Kae will be remembered for enjoying fashion and always dressing her best. She had a quick wit and direct manner that were equal parts enduring and shocking. After her husband’s passing, Kae relocated from San Gregorio to Escondido to be near her children.
Kae was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Earl Rials, her mother Ginger Sennert, father Alfred Johnson, brother Kenneth Johnson, and her step-father Lloyd Proctor.
Kae is survived by her sons Edward (Samantha) of Napa, Scott (Maria) of Hernando, MS, and daughter Aimee (Michael) Donovan of Escondido; grandchildren Chloe Rials, Tyler Rials, and Haeley Donovan-Highland (Kevin); and sisters Loxi (Michael) Morgan and Dawn (Travis) McCann. She was looking forward to welcoming her first great-granddaughter Poppy Highland.
Services will be held Sunday, October 27 at Dignity Memorial in Encinitas.
