

Adele Mintz Sogorka, 99 years old, of San Marcos, California passed away Monday, March 3, 2025 following a brief illness. Adele was born March 17, 1925 in Passaic, New Jersey to Friedrich and Mary (Peruzka) Mintz. Adele graduated from Clifton High School in 1942. She enjoyed traveling to New York City with her sister Pauline where they both worked for the aviation pioneer Jacqueline Cochran. In 1947 she married John “Jack” Sogorka (deceased 2005) and had one daughter, Karen.
Adele worked in administration for the Montclair, New Jersey Board of Education before she and Jack relocated to Encinitas, California in 1977. Adele continued her administrative career working as the Cardiff School District Business Manager until her retirement in 2000.
Adele will be remembered for her love and devotion to family, her humor and independence. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed walking her beloved dogs, biking, swimming and perusing shops. Adele will be missed deeply by her daughter Karen Goldey-Houlihan, grandsons Robert Goldey IV (Tracy) and Brian Goldey (Mimi); great-grandsons Robert Goldey V and Jack Goldey; son-in-law John Houlihan; nieces Jacqueline Stickley (Dewey); Dale Walker Colombo (John), Lisa Roehling; great-nephew Dante Colombo, great-nieces Paulina Colombo, Tamara Varner (Dane).
Adele is preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law Pauline and Paul Walker; twin brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Stamatia Mintz; son-in-law Robert Goldey III; nephew Lester “Butch” Sogorka (Rosie), niece Maria Walker and brother-in-law Lester Sogorka.
Adele also leaves many extended family members, wonderful neighbors and friends.
