James (Jim) Clyde Fawcett, 92, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Palmetto, FL on October 3, 2024. He was born in Fairmont, WV, to James T. and Marguerite (Morris) Fawcett on November 9, 1931.
He lived in the Brownlow area of Grafton, WV, for nearly 60 years and spent his retirement years at Tree Lakes Resort in Palmetto, FL.
He and his late wife of 62 years, Marie Fogle Fawcett, raised three children together: James Fawcett of Grafton, WV, Elizabeth (Tony) Doerr of McHenry, MD, and Thomas (Pam) Fawcett of Waverly, OH.
He had three grandchildren, Austin (Lindsey) Doerr, Ryan Fawcett, Kassandra (Fiancé Corey) Fawcett, and a great-grandson, Garrett Doerr. He is also survived by his loving companion of eight years, Carole Dorsey, and many nieces and nephews.
Jim is also preceded in death by his sister Lynn White, brother-in-law Joseph White, and daughter-in-law Libby Fawcett.
He graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1949 and attended Fairmont State College. He held many jobs, including office manager at Ozite Corporation and sales manager for WHAR/WVHF radio stations. He and his wife, Marie, jointly owned Fawcett’s Funnel Cakes for nearly twenty years, traveling to festivals and fairs selling funnel cakes and lemonade throughout WV, PA, & MD.
He was also involved in politics in Grafton/Taylor County, WV, having been elected to Grafton City Council and appointed mayor from 1971-74. During this time, he was a member of the Taylor County Recreation Commission and instrumental in securing funding for the Grafton City Pool.
Jim was involved in many service organizations, including Taylor County Shrine Club, Kiwanis Club of Grafton, and Jaycees Club of Grafton. He was also a member of the Grafton Elks Club.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date.
