Wayne Reese Colburn, Jr., age 74 of Queenstown, Maryland, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication.
Wayne is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Nancy Colburn; loving children Deborah Lynn Hutchinson and Michael Reese Colburn; Siblings Bruce G. Colburn (Elisa), Guy David Colburn (Vera), Colleen Robinson, Sean Colburn (Lisa), and predeceased by his brother Gary Kevin Colburn. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and his faithful dog and companion China Girl, who was a constant source of joy and comfort in his life.
Wayne’s life was enriched by his marriage to Nancy, whom he shared 45 beautiful years with. They first met at the Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department, where their shared passion for service ignited a flame that burned brightly throughout their marriage.
Wayne’s commitment to community service spanned an impressive 45 years with the Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department. He was an educator, serving as lead instructor at Centreville Training Center and College Park MFRI, sharing his knowledge and passion for firefighting with generations to come. Wayne’s dedication to public service extended beyond the fire department, as he proudly served in the Navy and Coast Guard, leaving an indelible mark on his country. In addition to his service in the military and fire department, Wayne was an active member of the Masonic community and the American Legion Post 296 in Queenstown, Maryland. Wayne had an evident love for the Baltimore Ravens, and found solace and joy in sitting in his recliner, watching TV, and sharing those moments with Nancy and China Girl.
A visitation for Wayne will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd, Elkridge, MD 21075. A visitation will ALSO occur Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A funeral service will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home. Interment to follow. Family and friends are invited to attend a luncheon at the Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department following interment, hosted by Ladies Auxiliary of the Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department.
