Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, John Arthur Smith, went home to his Heavenly Father on August 26, 2023. at the age of 80. John was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Arlene Smith, his brother, Frank, his sister, Joyce, and his stepson, John Zulick.
A proud graduate of Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, Maryland, John joined the Air Force, serving his country for four years and gaining skills which he would later use in his career in the computer field.
With his spouse of 40 years, Bonnie Smith, John enjoyed RVing, camping and waterskiing. They also loved touring “America’s Castles” throughout the United States. Biltmore and Hearst Castle were their favorites. John and Bonnie played many rounds of cards with lifelong friends at home and at their Ocean Pines beach house, making precious memories along the way.
John was an avid private pilot, a hobby he shared with his son, Adam. Like his son, Brian, John was good at fixing and building things and tinkering with computers. He often used his skills to teach and help his children, stepchildren and grandchildren. Baby cradles were his specialty!
John reveled in his other name: Pop Pop. One of his favorite past times was hanging out with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved talking with them and mentoring them. He took great pride in their many accomplishments.
John is survived by his wife, Bonnie, his sons, Brian Lee and Shawn Adam (Katie), his stepchildren Jim Zulick III (Kim) and Kelly Carney (Ed), his grandchildren Callie, Brittany, Teddy, Bonnie, Jack, William, Ginevra, Riley, Kellen, and Aidan, his great grandchildren Millie, Annabelle, Dexter, Cohen, Quentin and Russell, and his nephew, Frankie (Wendy).
A Memorial Service for John will be held at Glen Mar Church in Ellicott City, MD on September 30, 2023 at 11:00AM in the chapel.
