John Charles Rhodes

John Charles "Charlie" Rhodes, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was 64 years old.

Charlie was born on March 7, 1960 in Maryland to John Rhodes and Gloria Simpson; He was the beloved husband of 43 years to Mary Martha Rhodes; Loving father of John Rhodes (Karen), Jennifer Alexander (Collin), and Rosella Cratty (Vincent Costlow); Cherished grandfather of David, Jacob, Kenneth, Tyler, Lucas, Connor, Justin, Maddison, Caitlyn, Gabriel, Dylan, Porter, Josephine, Harper, and Hudsyn, and great-grandfather of Emersyn; Dear brother of Alice Partell, Rose Rhodes, Susan Wessels, and Deborah Miller, Grafton Britton and the late Jr Simpson.

He dedicated his life to hard work, generosity, and a deep love for his family and community. Charlie's passions were as vast as his heart. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace and joy in fishing trips, hunting expeditions, and the excitement of Nascar racing, particularly cheering on his hero, Dale Earnhardt Sr., and competing at Dorsey Speedway.

His collections were a testament to his varied interests and practical nature. Charlie amassed an array of hats, ties, tools, flashlights, work gloves, and hunting guns, each item holding a story and purpose dear to him. He enjoyed passing time playing games on his phone, always eager to share his latest achievements with a smile and a story.

Known for his warm personality and unwavering kindness, Charlie never met a stranger. His trademark phrase, "Let me show you, Son," reflected his patient yet eager nature to help others. He cherished his grandchildren deeply, finding immense joy in their laughter and accomplishments.

Charlie was a loyal fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Washington Capitals, and he cherished moments spent camping with loved ones. His career as a heavy machinery operator at Superior Mechanicals was more than just a job; it was a source of pride and purpose. Prior to that, he served as a foreman for City Contractors and Suburban Utility, leaving a lasting impact on those he worked with.

Music was a passion that resonated deeply with Charlie. Possessing a baritone voice, he found peace in singing hymns like "Just a Closer Walk to Thee," as well as enjoying country and the music of the 60s and 70s. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Savage, where he served as Chairman of Deacons and Vice Chair of the Trustees, embodying his faith through service and dedication. throughout his life, he committed himself to the church; he spent many years attending and serving at Hope Baptist Church in Laurel, Maryland.

In his leisure time, Charlie found tranquility in visiting Chincoteague Island in Virginia and the Double G RV Park in Deep Creek, Maryland where he appreciated the beauty of nature and the simple joys of life.

Charlie Rhodes leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith. His impact on those who knew him will forever be cherished.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolence Fund at the First Baptist Church of Savage and / or to the Bread of Life Food Pantry.

Receiving of friends and family for John will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 8901 Washington St, Savage, MD 20763, where a Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM. Burial at Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd, Elkridge, MD 21075.
