Our deepest condolences to Mary, children & grandchildren, for the passing of Pancho.

We met Pancho in NW Washington DC around 1967, at the home of Leticia Cousido. (Mary & Leticia Cousido used to work together) I remember Pancho being there, what I can't remember if Mary was his girlfriend then or that's where they met!
My memories of him since that day are still very clear, his friendly presence with a great smile, fun indeed! Although my brother & I were very young then, but still remember him well after all these years.
Our father Luis & Pancho connected from that day on & became great friends after all these years.They also worked together for a few years. When Pancho had issues with his cars, he would come to see his friend Luis for repairs. Our father was the recipient of a few of the vehicles, that he no longer wanted. 
I know they are Happy now & laughing into eternity!
He would surely be missed by our entire family.  Everyone knew who Pancho was!

He was a great friend to my parents, and I have so many fun memories of visits, vacations, and celebrations with him as a kid.  He's truly a man to be celebrated and missed.   

Absolutely heartbroken tonight. I was very fortunate as a kid to have a second family.  My parents both worked in DC and at a young age, my parents found this wonderful family that would babysit me. Mary and Frank aka Mimi and Poppy. Poppy and I shared a birthday and every year to this day he still wished me Happy Birthday. He would say Great men were born on this day and we are two of those men.  Both of them loved me and treated me like one of their own children which they had 4. Poppy was a chef and a real mariachi. Poppy would always make me the best food and to this day no mexican restaurant has ever come close to the amazing meals he would cook for us all.  He was always a hard worker and could make you laugh for hours. I can still remember helping him study to get his citizenship which is such a monumental part of my memories. Just seeing him wanting to be an American so bad that he was studying so hard.  He even took a break from working on his VW rabbit lol. If you knew him you knew about his love and passion for them.  He was one of the greatest men I have ever known and I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing.  He will always be an influential part of my life that I will look back on.  Praying for his family and friends.  Rest in Peace Poppy Thank you for all that you did for me. I love you...


Dear Mary and Family,

We write to you with a heavy heart knowing you are experiencing such sorrow. We send you our deepest sympathy at the loss of dear Pancho. We have such fond memories of the beautiful friendship that existed between Pancho and our late dad.  How wonderful to think of them enjoying each other's company once again. We also remember how talented he was when we were fortunate enough to hear him sing at the Alamo restaurant. We had a great time speaking with him and enjoying his upbeat personality and, of course, his sense of humor. 
The Lord gave you a wonderful husband, dad and grandfather. We sincerely pray that the Lord supernaturally fills you with His strength and peace.

When I had my daughter I didn't know who was going to take care of her. My father had just retired and he said that he could do it. I did not hesitate I knew he was the best candidate. I'm so blessed that my daughter had spend so many years 
with Poppy . She is amazing person because of him💕💓🥰We  love you and thank you 💕 and you will always be in our hearts 💕❤️❣️💞💗

He was my best friend and I’ll miss him forever

Dear Poppy my first time meeting you was when I was 10 when I went to the states to visit my auntie Mary and you and family,you were a lovely vibrant happy man and I will always remember you made the tastiest food.I have great memories,love you lots rest in peace your niece in law Aoife x x x                                 Poppy I spoke with a few times on watsapp over the last few years,I only met you in person the once at a wedding here in Ireland around 12 years ago,I was only going out with Aoife about 2 months and I only knew 4 other people at the wedding.I came out for a smoke and you came out a minute later and lit a cigar.We had an instant connection and I chatted to you for most of that night.We spoke about soccer you said "you need to go to the Azteca Stadium home ground of Mexico to get the best atmosphere in world soccer,thousands of gringos will make you deaf in there".A gentleman real hearty and jolly.Your son Frankie Jr  reminds me of you as I also had an instant connection with him the first time I met him.My condolences to all the Velazquez family at this time.RIP Poppy

Poppy was one of the nicest men and greatest cook of Mexican food.  Our daughter went to school with the girls and they all swam on the Oakview pool swim team.  Our prayers are for the Family, you’re hurting  now but with time every thought of Frank will bring a smile; you all were  so lucky.  God Bless Mary and the Family and may Frank find eternal rest and peace.

We are so sorry to hear of Frank's (Poppy) passing. He was a special man.  Our whole family delighted in his company and the friendship of his entire family. And the homemade salsa!!  Thanks  Frank for the memories.  Our love, John and Lauren


I am truly sorry to hear about poppy, I loved him very much and will miss him. Thank you for all the great late night food and all the great laughs through out my childhood!
