Cheryl Lee Johnson was born on Saturday, the 8th of January, 1949. She was exactly 73 years and 10 months old when she left this world on Tuesday, the 8th of November, 2022.
During her life, Cheryl was a seamstress, a bookkeeper, and a longtime active member of The Order of the Eastern Star, where she was Past Worthy Matron of Woodlawn Chapter 101, and former Worthy Grand Matron of the state of Maryland. She had a beautiful Soprano voice, and sang in front of thousands throughout her life, and to every grandchild and great-grandchild as she rocked them to sleep.
She is predeceased by her parents, Betty Jean Carver and Earl Leech Johnson, Jr., her little sister, Rita J. Snyder, and her nephew, Anthony R. Johnson.
Cheryl is survived by her brother, Earl L. Johnson III; Anthony’s son, Jacob Johnson - and his son, Theo; her niece, Christy Johnson; her nephew, Earl Johnson, IV along with his wife Kelly; and their children, Lauren, and Earl Johnson, V - and his daughter, Harmony.
Immediate Family who survive her are: her daughter, Elizabeth Griggs; her son-in-law, William, and their children; Matthew Kennedy, Jr., Shawn Kennedy, Brandon Kennedy, LaBradford Brown, Amanda Griggs, and Lauren Griggs. She will also be deeply missed by the children’s spouses, significant others, and the seven great-grandchildren who called her ‘YaYa’ (Milo, Sage, Sylus, Skyler, Aubrey, Andre and Landyn).
Cheryl is also survived by many who thought of her as a second Mom, Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin, Sister and Friend. She was recently described as “small in stature, but a tower of strength” which perfectly sums up this fierce, independent woman who loved deeply and unconditionally. Her kindness and compassion will be dearly missed by those who loved her.
