She was born in Detroit, August 13, 1920, the daughter of Lawrence and Lucille Edwards. Maureen attended Commerce High School in Detroit and received a High School Diploma. Maureen was married to Charles Edward Fairbanks on November 1943. Together they had one child, Maxine Fairbanks. Her first beloved husband died fighting for our country in World War II soon after. Following his death she served our country by working in the factories during the War. Maureen then remarried Hazen (Casey) Cooper on June7, 1957. And moved to the Rapid City area in the 1980s.
Maureen was a very hard working woman who spent her working career in a variety of jobs from retail to printing companies and most importantly a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a fabulous cook, an avid reader, pet lover, and gardener. Maureen will always be remembered for her abundant love of family, her wonderful sense of humor and her optimism and contentment in all that life threw at her.
She was the last of 15 children to pass away. She is survived by her best friend and daughter, Maxine Fairbanks, grandchildren Kelly Carlson and Chris Stevens (wife Leanne), and great-grandchildren Anthony, Allyson, Alexander and Anderson Carlson; Madelyn, Dylan and Sawyer Stevens.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 1, 2013 from 4-7 p.m. at the Covell Funeral Home in Elk Rapids. A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Elk Rapids at 11 a.m., Friday, August 2, 2013, with Father Robert J. Zuchowski presiding. Burial will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens in Traverse City.
