He was in the Marines at the end of WWII, then received his teaching certificate from Western Kentucky University. Bill taught adult agriculture classes to returning veterans and later accepted a Vocational Agriculture teaching position at Howevalley in Hardin County. During that time, he received his masters degree from the University of Louisville and became principal of the school until his retirement in 1980. While living in Howevalley, he helped with summer baseball and softball leagues.
Bill was a lifelong member of Cecilia Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and several of their committees. He was a lifelong farmer in the St. John Farming Community. He was a charter member of Hardin County Beef Cattle Association and was involved with their cook outs and educational programming. In 2012, he was inducted into the KY Cattleman's Association Hall of Fame, Region 2.
Aside from all of his accomplishments in life, Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Era Nell Goodman; his parents, Albert and Nell Caldwell Goodman; and his siblings, Katie Howard, Opal Martin, Lois Jones, and Jack Goodman.
Survivors include his two sons, Kenney (Julie Smith) Goodman and Michael (Terri) Goodman all of Elizabethtown; one sister, Mildred (George) Muth of Elizabethtown; two grandchildren, Casey (Megan) Goodman and Clay (Emily) Goodman; and four great grandchildren, Lane, Jack, Haddie and Hayes.
The funeral is Friday, February 9, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Cecilia Baptist Church with Pastor Donnie Davis officiating. Burial will be private at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and continues Friday after 11 a.m. all at Cecilia Baptist Church.
