Born in Hobbs, New Mexico July 2, 1939, she moved to El Paso, TX and attended Texas Western from 1957–61, earning a teaching certification in elementary and special education.
She began her long and dedicated teaching career at Sageland Elementary where she met her husband John in 1963. Vera also taught at Ramona Elementary for 21 years and was tirelessly devoted to positively impacting the lives of hundreds of special education students. Affectionately known as Nana to her family and closest friends, Vera enjoyed reading, gardening, walking, family gatherings during holidays and special occasions, and spending time with friends. She also enjoyed travelling during her retirement, visiting Hawaii and Europe. Vera deeply loved her family and dogs, CoCo and Buster, and adored her great-granddaughters Chloe and Marlee, looking forward each day to picking them up from pre-school and taking them to gymnastics practice.
