Susan Denise Coons, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, in El Paso, Texas, at the age of 73. Born on June 23, 1951, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Susan lived a life rich in love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to her family. Family was at the heart of everything Susan did. She took immense pride in her large, ever-growing family and she was the glue that held everyone together. Known affectionately as "everyone's grandma," she never hesitated to lend a hand, especially when it came to caring for children. Whether babysitting or simply being a warm presence, Susan was always there.
She had a love for gardening, thrifting, and collecting especially anything Mickey Mouse or frog-themed. Her knack for finding treasures was only matched by her gift for conversation. Witty, talkative, and endlessly friendly, Susan made new friends wherever she went and left a lasting impression on everyone she met. One of her greatest joys was grabbing a bite to eat with any family member who was free, turning simple outings into cherished memories.
Susan is survived by her brother Michael P. Slade (wife Eelemina) and six children Michelle D. Tafoya (2 children and 4 great-grandchildren), Ricardo M. Tafoya (8 children and 4 great-grandchildren) Oliver C. Tafoya (wife Lucinda, 3 children and 6 great-grandchildren), Patricia M. Tafoya (1 child), Suzanna E. Taylor (4 children), Naomi R. Ardis (4 children) in case you lost count that is a total of 22 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her love and legacy.
A service to celebrate Susan's life will be held on April 25th at 10:00 AM at Christ the Savior 5301 Wadsworth Ave 79924. Family and friends are welcome to join in honoring her memory and the extraordinary life she lived.
