Rogelio “Roger” Betancourt, adored husband, father and grandfather passed away on October 25, 2022 after a hard fought battle with leukemia. Roger was a devout Catholic and an active member of Cristo Rey Catholic Church having served as a Eucharist Minister and Finance Committee member. He was an immensely humble, generous, kind, and caring man who helped many in times of need. Roger’s heart of gold and hard-working hands are at rest now with our Lord. In our grief, we take comfort in knowing you are with your children. We will love you forever.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents Rogelio and Antonia Contreras Betancourt, his son Roy Betancourt, and his daughter Brenda Betancourt Sandoval. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years , Maria H. Betancourt, daughter Antonia B. Hernandez (Frank), daughter Letica Betancourt, grandchildren Toni Camacho (Joseph Randazzo), Nicole M. Hernandez, Jacqueline Sandoval, and Brandon Beltran. Roger also had many nieces, nephews, and godchildren as well.
Roger was born in Juarez, Mexico and at the age of 18, came to the United States and became a U.S. Citizen. He entered into the sheet metal industry and eventually attained the level of master of his trade. He worked for Southwestern Sheet Metal Works for 22 years before opening Roger’s Sheet Metal in 1992. Through hard work, Roger was extremely proud to have been able to build a very successful business becoming highly respected amongst his colleagues in the industry.
The Betancourt family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to Dr. Cesar Calianga his primary care doctor and to Dr. Arsenio Lopez and his staff at Texas Oncology. Additional thanks to the ER, Oncology, and ICU medical staff and especially his ICU nurse Cristina at Providence Memorial Hospital. Thank you to all our family and friends who supported us with thoughts and prayers throughout this difficult time.
Visitation will be on Monday, November 7, 2022 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Dr., El Paso, Texas 79915, with a Rosary beginning at 6:00pm. A Funeral Mass will occur Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 10:00am at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 8011 Willamette Ave., El Paso, Texas 79907. An interment will follow at 11:30 am at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. Zaragoza Rd., El Paso, Texas 79907. Pallbearers to be Frank Hernandez, Brandon Beltran, Dante Martinez, Adrian Santiago, Lorenzo Alvara, and Carlos Mora.
