He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Cleotilde Alvidrez (m. April 8, 1956), and their five children: Richard G Jr. (Miriam Collazo), Virginia McKenzie (Dennis), Thomas R (Maria E), Jorge (Rita Sanchez), and Rosie Mota (Jose). Richard is also survived by siblings Elvira Sanchez, Herminia Witherspoon, Josephine Cruz, Emma Garcia, and Raul (Roy), 17 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and six siblings Santos, Estela Estrada, Eloisa Charles, Pedro (Pete), Arturo (Archie), and Rodolfo (Fito).
Richard served 3 years active duty in the United States Army and worked 30 years for the Defense Finance and Accounting. In 1971, Richard founded his business R G Garcia Bookkeeping & Tax Service, which he ran until his retirement in 2019. His greatest joy in life, second only to his family, was work. He loved meeting with his clients, tending to his yard, teaching and caring for his grandchildren and sharing his stories about his upbringing in Somerset. His other life passions were baseball, football, boxing, and travel. Richard and Cleo enjoyed travels to Europe, Asia, Mexico, Canada, and several cities throughout the United States. A beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, he was a great man who will be dearly missed by many.
Funeral services: Visitation - Thursday, March 31, 2022, Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N Carolina, El Paso Texas 79915 from 5-9pm with Rosary at 7pm. Funeral Mass - Friday, April 1, 2022 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church 7712 Rosedale St. El Paso, TX 79915 at 9:15 am with burial immediately following at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery
