Our dear mother Rebecca Castro passed away on December 26, 2022, at the age of 66. She will reunite with the love of her life Aurelio Castro (RIP 1/24/2022). In heaven, they will continue to laugh, sing and dance together.
Rebecca Castro was born in Ciudad Juarez to Hijinia and Jose Felix Romero. She was one of seven siblings (Chilo Zuniga, Maria Isabel Garcia, Virginia Ramirez, Norma Perez, Jose Romero (RIP 6/2017), and Lulu Martin. Her father migrated to the United States through the bracero program allowing them to establish a home in El Paso.
She grew up in “Chihuahuaita” and met her husband of 45 years, Aurelio Castro, at Bowie High. They met in Mr. Frankenstein’s English class. Their high school days were filled with sports activities, dances, and lots of laughs.
As a young teenage mother, she went on to work at Levi’s and Farah factories where she worked as a seamstress. These positions contributed to her evolving into a strong, independent working woman.
When her husband decided to leave his stable full-time job to open and establish C & J Dental lab, she was initially terrified. Her factory positions supported their family of three in those early years. She ultimately left her factory position to join her husband in his entrepreneurial business venture. With minimal education she went on to be the operation manager and bookkeeper of C & J dental lab, helping maintain their small business in operation since 1983. Many would say she was “the real Boss”.
Her love and dedication to her family will greatly be missed. She was the first to volunteer to help and the first to let us know if we messed up. She was the pillar of our family; her home was where everybody found a place. Food was always plentiful, laughs were always had, and she always had a “dicho” for every situation. A simple gathering always turned into such a big fiesta. It wouldn’t be uncommon for her to say “te gusta el pedo y el olor del calson” or “tienes dos trabajos enorjarte y contentarte”.
Rebecca and Aurelio shared a lifetime of memories together. They had four children Alejandro, Laura Isela, Erika Maite, and Aurelio Junior. Also, ten grandchildren Michael, Alexandra, Anthony Andrew, James Lars, Juan Pablo, Stevie Ray, Viviana Maite, Jazmyn, Samantha, Benicio, and one great-grandchild, Evanny Jade.
