After Raymundo graduated from Cathedral High School in 1957, he began working at the family’s business Pete’s Meat Market on Alameda Ave, where he later met the love of his life Cecilia Drusina. Raymundo went on to study Civil Engineering at Texas Western College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1963. He was the first in his family to earn a college degree and was an inspiration to the family. He went on to earn a Master of Science in Civil Engineering in 1971 from the University of Texas at El Paso.
Raymundo was a prominent civil engineer who worked for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for 42 years (1963 - 2005). He specialized in structural design and worked on several major projects to include the Spaghetti Bowl, Bridge of the Americas, Zaragoza International Bridge, Loop 375 & Joe Battle, Anapra bridge over Rio Grande, and the Purple Heart Highway among many others. He was also a great mentor to many junior civil engineers and was highly regarded by his peers for his expertise in structural design and for the successful completion of many roadway projects throughout the State of Texas for over 40 years.
Raymundo was a dedicated father, a mentor for many professional engineers, a dedicated husband who had a brilliant personality and was loved by all who had the opportunity to be in his life. He will always be remembered by his family for his positive personality and his overall love for science, astronomy, engineering and his never-ending pursuit of knowledge. He will also be remembered for his great sense of humor and for being the life of the party.
