Mrs. Patricia Consuelo Alcantar Navarro

Patricia Consuelo (Alcantar) Navarro, beloved wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend passed away on September 29, 2010. She is survived by her husband, Joe Navarro, daughters Kristine Navarro-McElhaney and Jennifer Navarro Thompson, her father and step mother Jose and Olga Alcantar, brothers Richard and Joe Alcantar, sisters Maggie Bennett, Sylvia Alcantar, Cissy Lizarraga, Toni Fox, and grandsons Jonathan Cervantes and Miguel Thompson. Patricia was born in El Paso on September 6, 1944 to Jose Alcantar and Margarita Tirre. She was a graduate of Loretto Academy and the University of Texas at El Paso, and began her dedicated teaching career at Putnam Elementary School, where she spent 26 years. Upon retirement from EPISD, she continued to teach at Santa Teresa Elementary school for 6 years. Mom’s love and passion for her family, students, and life was present in everything she did. She rarely thought of herself but always worried about others and their well being. Wanting to make sure that everyone else was at peace and happy, she would carefully listen, use comforting words and even crack a joke when needed. Her quiet generosity reflected a life of giving and doing for others. Her guiding motto, which she instilled in her children, grandchildren and students, is to dream large, believe in yourself, and have respect for all people. She was most proud when her children and her students reached major milestones. Mom’s deep faith and inner strength were the driving force that enabled her to gracefully cope during challenging times. She never raised her voice but wouldn’t hesitate to give “the look” which was well understood by her children, grandchildren, and students as a firm yet encouraging signal to do better and to be considerate. She touched many students and never, ever gave up on them. We will miss her dearly and there won’t be a moment where she is not in our thoughts and in our hearts. We love you mom. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 4, 2010 at 5:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home West Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 11:30 AM at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 400 W. Sunset Drive. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Patricia C.
