Maria Emma Rodriguez passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017 with her family by her side. She was born January 23, 1926 in Chihuahua, Mexico, where she helped her parents tend their ranch. Determined to create a different life, Emma moved to El Paso, Texas. There she married Baudelio Rodriguez, her husband of 47 years. She worked at Farah Manufacturing to support her family until retirement. She became a U.S citizen at 72.
Emma was the first person in her family to become a Christian and led two siblings and four generations after her to know the Lord. She loved serving at church and enjoyed going to Mt. Hope Lutheran Center, where crocheted and learned to make yarn baskets. She would give these to her family, friends and any new person she met. She had a gift for making people smile in small ways.
Emma is survived by her siblings, Fernando Meraz, Aurelia Portillo, and Jose Maria Meraz; her children and their spouses, Irene Rodriguez, Ruben and Gloria Rodriguez, Irma and Ken Rakestraw, Albert and Julie Rodriguez, and Ernesto Rodriguez; her grandchildren, Dario, Abel, Aaron, Omar, Crystal, Karon, Jennifer, Elisa, David, Michael, Brittney, and Hannah; 25 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Baudelio. An open visitation will be held April 23, 5-9pm, at Crestview Funeral Home on Zaragoza. Gravesite Service will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, April 24, 1:30pm. Arrangements under the direction of Crestview Funeral Home, El Paso, TX.
