Devout Catholic, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Maria de Jesus Jaime completed her journey to heaven Monday, July 17, 2017 at her beloved Chelsea home in El Paso surrounded by family at age 96.
Daughter of Victorio Puentes and Felicitas Jaramillo, she was a native of Chihuahua, Mexico where she helped care for seven siblings and managed a family business in the Ciudad de Juarez Mercado. In the 1950’s she emigrated to the United States, married Juan Jaime and raised five children in central El Paso: Cecilio Jaime, Antoinette Chandler, Rosalva Shapiro, Miguel Jaime and Carmen Jaime.
She was deeply devoted to her religion and proudly displayed her love of Catholicism through the many saints, crucifixes and Virgin Mary memorabilia decorating her home. A true social butterfly, she was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Church and continued with prayer groups and televised mass once homebound. She practiced her faith daily by welcoming everyone into her home and parting ways with her signature, “Que dios te bendiga.” She leaves a legacy of many blessings, faith and love.
Martin Funeral Home Central has been entrusted with arrangements. Viewing: Sunday, July 23 from 5-9pm, vigil at 6pm. Funeral mass: Monday, July 24th at 10am at St. Francis Xavier Church and burial at Mount Caramel Cemetery.
Our hearts are at peace, as we know that she is in heaven embracing her late daughter Antoinette Chandler.
