Maria D Hernandez

She was preceded in death by the love of her life and devoted husband Manuel Hernandez.

She is survived by her devoted children, Blanca Rodriguez (Ray), Vic Hernandez (Millie), Mary McKay (David), and Yolie "Melissa" Ortiz (Victor).

She also leaves behind her loving sister Angela Cabral and dear brother Gabriel Reyes.

Maria was born in Chicago and was a lifelong resident of El Paso. She was surrounded by a loving family and church community. Her life was characterized by her unwavering dedication to her family, her church, and her passion for gardening, reading, sewing, and rejoiced in singing gospel songs. Her church community would come to know her as a strong leader, serving as President of the Ladies Auxiliary for many years and stepping in as Secretary/Treasurer in subsequent years. Maria enjoyed church trips to the mountains with her friends from the Ladies Auxiliary. At home, she spent many hours caring for her blooming garden, and it was a joy for all to see.

Family was the cornerstone of Maria's life, and her legacy will continue through her grandchildren, Cynthia Quintana, Denise Tellez, Kyra Fitzgerald, Nikki Hopkins, Kristen Hernandez, David Michael McKay, Jonathan McKay, Kayla Ortiz, Austin Ortiz, Craig Siron, and Keith Siron.

Maria was a cherished and loved great-grandmother to Danielle, Jocelyn, Jonah, Joey, Karina, Salma, Matea, Gael, Esme, Dylan, Hudson, and Adalynn.

She loved visits from her grandkids and great grandkids. She had a profound love for family and friends, and nobody left her house hungry.

Her presence will be profoundly missed. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Her memory will live on as a reminder of the difference one person can make through a life filled with love, kindness, and the selfless care of others.

A visitation and celebration of Maria's life will be held at Martin Funeral Home East, 1460 George Dieter Drive on Thursday, September 26, 2024, 10:30-11:30 a.m. viewing and a service from 11:30-1:00 p.m.

Maria will be laid to rest at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 4848 Alps Drive.

Pallbearers will be:

David Michael McKay, Jonathan McKay, Jonah Quintana, Joey Tellez, Ruben Quintana, and Victor Ortiz.
