Happy memories of Bill and Loretta on our Florida beach trip

The three sisters at the Santa Rosa beach home of Wes and Gay White. 

Loretta was the matriarch and the foundation of our extended family. Growing up, Loretta and Bill’s home was our home base because we moved often and their home felt welcoming and familiar. I remember their cozy living room filled with the sound of Bill’s booming voice as he’d retort to Loretta’s quips from the kitchen, a smile forming in her eyes that she would not let her mouth betray, and Loretta’s casserole dinners full of conversation and laughter. 

Loretta was the only aunt I ever knew. She would send birthday and Christmas gifts to me- carefully curated little treasures according to my interests and collection habits at the time. Only when I grew older did I see how thoughtful this was. Now I strive to be as thoughtful to my loved ones as she was to me. I wish I had taken the time to thank her. 

She was good to me because she loved her sister, my mother, so much and wished we could live closer. Every time our visits with her would end, Loretta and my mom would both cry. As they got older, parting became even harder because they knew each visit could be their last. I am grateful that my mother was able to see Loretta shortly before she passed, though I am heartbroken that she won’t be able to make good on her promise to visit her again. She was my mother’s best friend and loving big sister.

I am sorry that Bill, her sons, and grandchildren are suffering the pain of her loss. She was a special, talented, loving, strong, and kindhearted person. She lived through so many losses herself and was such an amazing role model for weathering hardships with grace and hope. I am grateful that she lived a long life with her loved ones close by. I know that meant everything to her. (It is possibly why she lived a long life since our family doesn’t have a history of longevity)! That is of little comfort now because her presence is missed so deeply and will be for years to come, by multiple generations. We can only move forward now as she would have- with grace and hope.

Loretta was not only my beloved sister but my Hero.   Because of her examples and her love for her family and caring ways, I became the person I am today.  The lives she has touched will never be the same, missing her deeply.  What we learned and gained from her wonderful ways, must be carried on in honor of her memory.  She always accepted and welcomed many into her home and life.  I will always have many cherished memories of her in my life.  Forever Remembered,

Loretta was preceded in passing by her mother Addie Mae (Young) Teague and father Lewdy Teague, sister Evelyn, sister Carolyn, as well as her beloved ragamuffin terrier, "Rags". She is also survived by her granddaughter Taryn Jones (husband Danny), and grandsons Randall White and Brandon White (wife Sarah), sisters Patricia Maxwell and Dana Mattison (husband Myron).
