Mr. Schwartz attended City High School in Chattanooga, TN, and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1960 and the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1963. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General Corps and practiced law in El Paso, Texas at the law firm of Schwartz & Earp for nearly fifty years.
Mr. Schwartz was a legend amongst family law practitioners in the state of Texas. Throughout his lengthy and successful legal career, he published and lectured extensively on family law matters. Among numerous leadership positions throughout his career, he served as Chairman of the Texas Family Law Council, President of the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists, President of the El Paso Bar Association, and was a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He also lectured at and authored numerous Texas Professional Development Programs at the University of Texas School of Law Institutes, SMU Law School, and Texas Tech Law School.
He received countless professional awards throughout his career, including the Sam Emison Memorial Award in 1989, and most recently the “Hall of Legends” Award from the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Texas in August 2017.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Schwartz was predeceased by his brother Jeffrey.
He is survived by sons Michael and his wife Romi of Houston, TX, David and his husband Chris of Kapaa, HI, Mark and his wife CJ of Bedford, TX, and his daughter Jeanne of El Paso, TX. He is also survived by his brother Barry of Los Angeles, CA, his nieces Shari, Alisa, and nephews Derek, Sean, and Ian, and his 8 grandchildren, Stephen, Hunter, Ethan, Samuel, Matthew, Jaylie, Ryan, and Royce.
