Juan Gonzalez (Mr. G.) passed away on Monday, May 11, 2015 at the age of 84. He was born on August 26, 1930 to parents Teodoro and Vicenta Gonzalez. He is survived by his loving wife Catalina of 66 years. Also survived by daughters, Angelina Navarro (Javier), Sandra Tilton (Bill), Debbie Gutierrez (Roy), Sons, Joe Gonzales (Rebecca), Jerry Gonzales (Lucy), 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by son Juan Gonzales Jr., granddaughter Darlene Gonzales and grandson Gus Lopez Jr. Also Survived by sisters, Isabel Carsten, Maria Olga White, Maria Elena Loya, and brothers, Teddy Gonzalez, and Larry Gonzales (deceased). Juan has always been a civic minded person by working with school PTA, Church civic club, and organizing sports programs for 53 years. He formed football, basketball, softball, baseball, cheerleaders, and T-ball teams with the city for children 8 to 14 years. He was awarded by the city of El Paso the lifetime Achievement Award. He was honored by the Sertoma Club with service to mankind award, Hidalgo Award (understanding of Hispanic culture), Baseball Hall of Fame (organizer), Mt. Franklin Kiwanis highest award, McDonald’s Hispanic Triunfadores, and City of El Paso Award for 52 years of service as director of Southeast T-Birds boys and girls sports programs. He was scheduled to receive The Conquistador Award by the Mayor of City Council on May 26. Juan is a proud 1948 Bowie graduate. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He will be missed by everyone. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Drive. Funeral Mass will be held Monday , May 18th at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Light Church, 4700 Delta Dr. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
