Joe La Rocca was my husband.  We had 35 great years together.  We had our ups & downs like everyone but I wouldn't trade one single day.  Thirty five years was not long enough.  It's been 3 yrs since his passing & I miss him every minute of every day.   He is at peace!  I love you "Rock".

Today was a year that I lost my husband, Rock, (Joe La Rocca) and I miss him so much.  I cannot, to this day, believe he is gone.  I keep waiting for him to walk in the door.  I know that's not going to happen but the feeling is there.  I love him & miss him & always will.

Joe: The years we shared together, as sister and brother, were not enough. I remember you daily in my prayers. This morning, I went to mass received communion to commemorate your first year in heaven. Today I also spent much time , Thinking of your beautiful, loving  wife Linda.  Her dedication to you during this difficult period  was nothing short of remarkable. I always knew she was someone special. I am soo grateful  that we share a wonderful relationship.  Your Son's miss you very much. I am in contact with Joe Jr, have been through the years. Sonny, has developed a relationship with him to. Rest easy my brother  your Son is not alone. Linda is in touch with him to. My only consolation is you have no more pain..... love you always Jeanne

You and Uncle Joe were so kind to us and showed us around to different places.  I still have the pendant I bought when we were there. JOE  When Linda called to tell me you passed,I sat back in my chair,I could see two shores.The shore of the present,the shore of the future. I closed my eyes Invisioned  a small sailboat.  God was approaching to accompany you home to the the shore of the future Everyone was there to welcome you home. To our kind and generous friend Rock, you will be dearly missed.  We will always remember the times we shared in Las Vegas.  Yes, the city is an exciting place to visit.  So many things to see and do there.  But it was the time spent with you and Linda that made the trips there so unforgettable.  Southpoint Casino; what a great place.  Quite often, the four of us would end our evenings sitting at the little café there enjoying a scoop or two of ice cream.  Having a meal at the Vegas Hofbrauhaus was a tradition we had also. Good food and good conversations were always part of the visit there.  We always seemed to have much in common, like politics, grandchildren, military careers, an appreciation of life in Germany and wives who love playing slot machines into the wee hours of the morning.  We thank you for many, many wonderful memories.  We’ll remember you and will love you always.     


To me, you were always "the enigmatic Uncle Joe". Our very own "GI Joe"! Didnt get to see you alot but, it was always "quality vs quantity". Your deep, voice always had advice for me, that i never listened to, lol. My fondest memory (and i know the rest of us underaged cousins will remember as well) was the time we all got into the liquor cabinet when you lived in Ft Totten. Oh boy, that was a night indeed! While i know you were a serviceman, i had no idea the extent of your service and decoration! Explains the quiet smolder of that deep voice of yours! While we didnt get to see you as much lately, my memories are all warm and I will miss you alot! Say hello to everyone up there! I love you!

Uncle Joe,
     You were a very special man:  loving, kind, brave, compassionate, caring, helpful, supportive and loyal!  You served your country with valor and pride, but you were never boastful.  You always appreciated the gratitude of others, but were never seeking recognition.  As a little girl, I knew my Uncle Joey was in the army: a lifelong serviceman. I never knew what sacrifices you made, or could ever understand the depth of selflessness you displayed.  As a grown woman, I have a better sense, although very little, of what you endured:  the pain (both physical and emotional), the loss, the sorrow and the camaraderie.  You gave so much of your life and your love for our beautiful country and you paid a very dear price, along the way.  We hope you knew how deeply we revered you and those sacrifices you so willingly made!  We hope you also knew how much we love you and will miss you, Uncle Joe! When I was still in my crib, my father heard me talking in the deepest voice I could muster:  "Hello, Maria!" That's when he figured out why I was frightened, whenever you tried to engage me; it was your deep voice!  How I loved hearing your voice on our many phone calls through the years, sharing funny anecdotes (mostly about Daddy and you), and hearing your laughter and the calm, steady cadence of a man, who was in command.  On the morning of 9/11, it was you, who spoke that way to me, giving me reassurance and direction, when I felt like I didn't know what to do!  I am so glad Tom and Melissa had the chance to get to know you and love you, and for the wonderful connection we all shared!  You and Aunt Linda were always so warm, thoughtful and interested  in our lives and well-being. You fought so bravely and so valiantly these past several years, just like the soldier you are.  You may not have won this battle, but I know you are victorious, in Heaven, where all angels reside!




My beloved Uncle I did not get to see you that often but the texts the phone calls and the visits Were more than enough. There was always that understanding that love between family was always there. No matter what you did there was always a cordial ,  Kind and considerate way about you. I will always love you and the family will  All be together once more through God's gracious will. R.I.P.   For I will always love you and remember you!

Linda and entire family, I am so saddened to receive the news that Joe passed away. He and I were in Group Life #1, Class 26, USASMA together and have stayed in touch since graduation. My love, thoughts and prayers are with you all. 

Joe, you have touched the lives of many people.   There is no man in my life I have been prouder to know and love.

Remember to celebrate this great man's life as he celebrated his life every day.

When my father Passed away seven years ago my heart was broken and then I met you Dad you were capable of making people fall in love with you instantly. My husband David your son told you that I lost my father and you became my father. You called me you texted me all the time and we had a fantastic relationship I will miss that forever. I believe that there is another life a next life and I would love to see you again dad.

There are no words Dad, my heart is heavy. I love you with all my heart and soul. I miss you and will see you again soon I promise. 

1SG La Rocca, you were a kind and decent man.  Thank you for leading by the fine example you displayed while I served under your leadership in Landstuhl, Germany, 1982-1984.  May the Lord welcome you in His kingdom.

Love you grandpa.. you were always the best! You  were someone I aspired to make proud with my everyday choices. Always remembered and never forgotten. Thank you for acknowledging me and being one of my greatest inspirations in life and setting the standards for others to live by.  You were a great pillar in life and will remain as one, now that your with the angels. I love you dearly my grandpa. Your three great grandsons love you as well.

Joe and I served together on LZBaldy, Hill 63 near Danang, Vietnam.  I was so happy to reconnect with Joe after many years at two of our Vietnam Reunions.  It was nice to revisit our time in Vietnam together as Medics and to meet his wife, Linda.  Joe is one of finest people I have had the pleasure to know.  He will be missed dearly by by me and his Vietnam Co C 23rd Med brothers.  RIP Joe!!!  You will always be in our thoughts and memories.

I spent a couple of hours a few years ago at the La Rocca home discussing old westerns and military stories with Rock. One of my favorite times.
