Iris V. Fernandez

Iris V. Fernandez (86), born Jan 13, 1939, took her last breath on Mar 20,2025 and joined the party in heaven. She was the only child of Luis and Anita Vasquez. Born in Corpus Christi, she was raised in McAllen, TX. She completed her education degree at Pan American College. Striking out on her own, she moved to Monterey, CA. to teach. There she met Manny Fernandez and got married. They had a daughter and 2 weeks later they all moved to El Paso, TX in 1968.

She received her master's degree from UTEP. A teacher for 37 years, she continued teaching life lessons way past her retirement. Perhaps at times unsolicited, she would finish the advice saying, "Well, they have to learn!". Iris was also a Realtor for 31 years. She got immense pleasure by selling couples their first home.

She was a proud member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church for 42 years. As an active member of the Ladies Guild, her rum cakes would sell out at every bake sale. Iris fostered close relationships with her neighbors. Many of them becoming lifelong friends. She was always notifying them of the goings on happening on the block.

Never one to sit still, her motto was to, "Just get it over with". She was saying, "Just do it" before Nike was a company. Her favorite places were the beach, her garden and her lovely home. Iris was fortunate to have traveled the world. She was known for her enormous heart and beautiful smile. Everyone was the better for having known her.

She is survived by her only child, Laura Iris Fernandez. Final details are being handled by Martin Funeral Home. Her holy mass will be held at 10am, April 12th at Queen of Peace Church. A commemorative luncheon will follow at 150 Sunset. Please R.S.V.P. to [email protected]
