My Grandfather was the kindest, gentlest, most sincere and honest working man I have ever know.  I spent most of my childhood, from toddlerhood and through much of elementary, at my Grandparent's home in the afternoons. My best memories include waiting with my Grandmother on the front porch of their home for my Grandfather to arrive from work. He would get home at 5:00 sharp everyday and greet me with the biggest, most genuine smile and a "Hi-dee".

On Friday's I would spend the night. We would anxiously await the Duke's of Hazard to start on the television down in my Grandmother's den, and Granddad would always perfectly time making a big bowl of popcorn to have ready at the start of the show. I would climb up on his lap, in his favorite reclining chair, and share that bowl of popcorn. Even when I became a little too big to climb up on his lap, we would pretend that I wasn't. I would sit in his lap on that same favorite chair and give him a big hug around his neck. He was never preoccupied with work or other things going on in life. That time was devoted to us exclusively! I think the most important thing we can take away from his life is the love for his family, and the ability to make us genuinely feel loved and that we were his life. Not the most important "part" of his life, but literally family was his life.
